Listings in Alberta Avenue Edmonton

Alberta Avenue, located within the inner City of Edmonton, is one of the old residential neighborhood of the city. It was built in 1894, when Edmonton had approximately 1,000 residents, the dense shrubbery between 90 and 92nd Streets was subdivided into a two-block tract. This neighborhood was once part of "North Edmonton Village," which is located just outside of Edmonton. This first area of dwellings, which is better known as Eastwood, was isolated until 1906. Between 1906 and 1912, the neighborhood grew piecemeal as Edmonton's real estate brokers and speculators took advantage of the "land boom" that was sweeping the prairies at the time. The main physical layout of Alberta Avenue as we know it now was built during this period of significant growth. The area, which is close to the city's downtown, now has a high number of tiny residential lots, with house types ranging from little bungalows to bigger two-story homes facing streets lined with huge trees. Three main traffic arteries – 118th Avenue, Norwood Boulevard (111th Avenue), and part of 95th Street – have a substantial commercial component. The name of the neighborhood comes from the old name for 118th Avenue, “Alberta Avenue,” which has been in use since at least 1922, when the Community League was founded.
