Brander Gardens, formerly Glamorgan, is a neighborhood in Edmonton that was incorporated to the city in 1960. The region was included in a phased development plan for a substantial stretch of southwest Edmonton in 1961. Brander Gardens was the subject of a subdivision re-plot in 1967, just before to the creation of the overall design. The huge properties on the west side of the neighborhood are leftovers of an earlier development. The Riverbend-Terwillegar Heights Outline Plan incorporated Brander Gardens in 1969. The Outline Plan was the first of Edmonton's residential sections to be designed on such a wide scale, and it defined a development blueprint for a completely planned and self-contained town. Almost the majority of the homes in Brander Gardens were built in the 1970s. Row housing and low-rise flats make up the majority of the housing units, which are grouped near main traffic routes, recreational areas, and commercial centers. The plan's overarching goal is to promote efficient transport while avoiding traffic's detrimental impact on residential streets. Curvilinear and cul-de-sac layouts can be found on interior residential roadways. Pedestrian and bicycle mobility around the neighborhood is encouraged by a number of strategically placed paths, including the open space of a pipeline right-of-way. Fort Edmonton Park is immediately to the north of Brander Gardens, which is next to the river valley. Businesses at the Riverbend Shopping Centre cater to the inhabitants of Brander Gardens. In addition, being close to the Whitemud Freeway allows for easy access to the city's other important commercial and employment districts.
