Edmonton annexed Callingwood in 1969 and was mostly developed in the 1970s. Row homes and low-rise apartment buildings make up the majority of the neighborhood's residential area and the residential units are medium and higher density, with a few lower density single and semi-detached dwellings. 178th Street to the west, 170th Street to the east, and 69th Avenue to the south defines the neighborhood, which is located south of Whitemud Drive. Although it has no commercial developments, its neighboring Callingwood boasts a plethora of retail establishments that cater to inhabitants in the surrounding areas. Also, residents have easy access to other sections of the city because of the neighborhood's closeness to the Whitemud Freeway. Callingwood Park, one of the city's main parks and leisure facilities, is a prominent feature of the neighborhood. The Arrowhead and Kikino Trails connect the park to the open area west of the neighborhood. The West Jasper Place leisure facilities and a big open leisure field are available to residents.
