Ermineskin, like many other neighbourhoods in this area of Edmonton, has a curved street design and was built in the 1970s and 1980s. The majority of the neighborhood is residential, although there is also a significant amount of commerce, open space, and undeveloped property. In terms of residential densities and structural kinds, the neighborhood's residential development is also diverse. Single and semi-detached dwellings, row homes, low rise and high rise apartments may all be found in Ermineskin. Residential growth has persisted far into the early 2000s, mostly in the form of infill development and intensification, despite the fact that the bulk of residential construction occurred in the 1970s. On the old Heritage Mall site, the proposed "Century Park" renovation is located on the western side of the communities. The redevelopment plan is for a mix of business, business, and residential space centered around a central park space and connected to an LRT station. Century Park will be Edmonton's first purpose-built Transit Oriented Development when it is finished. The Ermineskin neighbourhood is named after Cree Chief Ermineskin of Hobbema.
