Listings in Kirkness Edmonton

Kirkness is in the Clareview neighborhood. The neighborhood is bordered on the north by 153rd Avenue, the east by Victoria Trail, the south by 144th Avenue, and the west by a public utilities corridor. The corridor creates an open space buffer along the neighbourhood's west edge, separating inhabitants from the CNR/LRT right-of-way. The Clareview station, located immediately south of the neighborhood, is served by the Edmonton LRT. The LRT connects central and southern Edmonton. The majority of the community's educational and recreational amenities are located in the neighborhood's northern section. James A. Christianson (1889-1953), a renowned businessman who funded the Oil Kings hockey team and the Meteors basketball team, has a local park named after him near 146 Avenue and Kirkness Road. Single-detached housing makes up around half of the residential units in the area, with the rest consisting of low-rise apartments, row housing, and minimal semi-detached housing. The majority of the flats and row houses are located on Kirkness Road, which is a significant bus route. The neighborhood has been actively developing since the 1970s, but by the 2000s, the most of the residential building had been completed. The neighbourhood is named after James Kirkness who came to Canada from Scotland in 1866. He worked for the Hudson’s Bay Company until 1881 when he retired to his homestead in River Lot 26
