Matt Berry is located in north Edmonton, near the Pilot Sound Area Structure Plan's southwestern section (ASP). Prior to urbanization, the area was utilized for agricultural and grain and cereal crop farming. The neighborhood is bordered on the north by 167th Avenue, the east by 59th Street, the west by 66th Street, and the south by 153rd Avenue. Matt Berry is nearly largely made up of single-family homes, with a few multi-family plots thrown in for good measure. The neighborhood began to grow in the 1980s, but most of the work was completed in the 1990s and continued into the 2000s. The surface of a pipeline right-of-way that runs east-west across the northern part of the neighborhood has been changed into a linear park to promote pedestrian and cycling connectivity for residents. A secondary pipeline right-of-way, located in the neighborhood's southeast corner, has been handled similarly and serves as a critical connection in Matt Berry's pedestrian walkway network. A school/park complex is located on the neighbourhood's eastern borders, and there are other smaller parks around the neighborhood. Matt Berry's vehicular circulation system is built on a hierarchical road system that places arterial roads on the neighborhood's borders, one main collector road that travels through the neighborhood, and a succession of small streets, many of which end in cul-de-sacs, around which housing is built. Matt Berry, like all of the Pilot Sound neighborhoods, is named after a Canadian aviation pioneer. Massey "Matt" Berry (1889-1970), a veteran of both World Wars and an award-winning bush pilot, is credited with helping to open up northern Canada. In 1973, he was inducted into Canada's Aviation Hall of Fame.
