Listings in Mayfield Edmonton

Mayfield is located north of 107th Avenue in west Edmonton. Most of the residential development took place in the 1950s and 1960s, and it continued steadily until the early 1980s. The center is defined by a central school and park, while three smaller parks are scattered around to offer residents with extra amenity space being surrounded by single-detached dwellings, most of which are bungalows. The street design is an excellent example of the post-World War II modified grid system with single-family homes making up the majority of the neighborhood, there are a few multi-family plots and a tiny business component. Another commercial development hotspot is at the intersection of 111 Avenue and 156 Street and Mayfield Common, a regional retail mall located along Stony Plain Road and Mayfield Road, is close by with major commercial amenities as the neighborhood is bordered on the north and west by industrial areas, and on the south and east by residential areas. In 1954, a naming contest was held to choose the name for the neighborhood. Wilfrid R. “Wop” May, a civilian aviation pioneer and World War I fighter pilot, was honored with the name Mayfield. In 1919, May developed Edmonton's first aviation service, and in 1928, he created the Edmonton and Northern Alberta Aero Club. In 1973, he was inducted into the Canadian Aviation Hall of Fame.
