THE MOUNTAIN CREE CAMP SCHOOL KISIKO AWASIS KISKINAHAMAWIN

Chief Robert (Bobtail) Smallboy and Lazarus Roan of the Erminskin band created the Mountain Cree Camp (formerly known as the Smallboy Camp) in 1967. The Erminskin Band is one of four bands that make up Maskwaches' reserves, which were once known as Hobbema. Mark Yellowbird, Peter Rowan, Alex Shortneck, and Fred Nadeau, as well as their spouses and families, were all there. The goal was to create a community based on their strong belief in the 'Natural Law,' which includes traditional Cree values, spirituality, and traditions. The first camp was erected on the Kootenay Plains, near Nordegg, in the foothills. The camp moved to the Muskiki Lake region, which is located halfway between Robb and Nordegg, in 1971.
